Why did my casino ask for ID?
Short answer: licensed casinos must confirm who you are before paying out. Upload your ID, proof of address and proof of payment straight after signing up and most withdrawals clear without delays.
KYC means "Know Your Customer". Licensed casinos have to confirm who you are before paying out, to stop fraud, money laundering and underage gambling. It's annoying, but a casino that never checks anything is a bigger worry.
What they usually ask for
- Photo ID: passport, driver licence or national ID card, all four corners visible.
- Proof of address: a utility bill or bank statement from the last 3 months, showing your name and address.
- Proof of payment: a photo of the card you deposited with (hide the middle numbers) or a screenshot of your e-wallet or crypto wallet.
- Sometimes a selfie holding your ID, or a short video check.
When it happens
- Usually on your first withdrawal.
- When you withdraw a large amount.
- When your deposit total passes a set level.
- If something looks unusual, like a new device or a different payment method.
How to get through it fast
- Upload everything straight after you sign up, before you've won anything.
- Make sure your details match exactly across your account, ID and payment method.
- Send clear, uncropped photos in good light. Blurry photos are the most common reason for rejection.
- Use your own payment methods only. A partner's card or wallet will stall your withdrawal.
When KYC becomes a red flag
Normal checks take 24 to 72 hours. Be wary if the casino keeps asking for new documents every time you send the last one, rejects clear documents without a reason, or only asks after you've won big. Those are stalling tactics. Read how to spot a dodgy casino and consider a complaint to the regulator or AskGamblers.
